Smart Care

Smart Care (the “Company”), headquartered in Alsip, Illinois, is North America’s leading provider of comprehensive mechanical services, including complex rack refrigeration, standalone refrigeration, and hot-side cooking equipment. The Company operates under two divisions – Smart Care Equipment Solutions and Smart Care Climate Solutions (formerly Zone Climate Services). 

Wind Point acquired Zone Mechanical in March 2021 and Smart Care Equipment Solutions in March 2022. Our value creation plan focuses on growing with new and existing customers, expanding geographic reach, and executing strategic acquisitions. 

Wind Point acquired Zone in partnership with CEO Henry Lees-Buckley, who brought significant M&A and operating expertise across route-based, trade-focused, and services-oriented businesses. Most recently, Mr. Lees-Buckley served as CEO of Uni-Select (TSX: UNS), a North American and UK leader in the distribution of automotive refinish products and aftermarket parts. Prior to his role at Uni-Select, Mr. Lees-Buckley held various leadership positions across WW Grainger (NYSE: GWW). Mr. Lees-Buckley played a critical role in the acquisition of Smart Care Equipment solutions and now serves as the CEO of the combined Smart Care organization. 

Wind Point also partnered with Steve Hochhauser, John Conover, James Mylett and Dave Keltner, who joined Smart Care’s board of directors during the original acquisition of Zone Mechanical. This investment represents the third partnership between Wind Point and Steve Hochhauser, who will be serving as the lead director. Mr. Hochhauser, a Wind Point Executive Advisor Partner ("EAP"), previously served as the CEO of Johns Manville and Board Chair for Ascensus Specialties and currently serves as Board Chair for Quantix. Mr. Conover spent significant part of his career at Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), a leading HVAC and refrigeration equipment OEM, where he served as the President Trane North America, managing a $4B P&L. Mr. Mylett is a Senior Vice President of Digital Buildings at Schneider Electric. Prior, Mr. Mylett was a COO at Comfort Systems (NYSE: FIX), where he managed one of the largest service technicians organizations in the US, with over 1,600 technicians. Mr. Keltner most recently served as a board member of BMC Stock Holdings, Inc. and bring extensive experience as a former CFO of Ferguson Plc (LON: FERG), once of the largest distributors of HVAC equipment in North America and the UK.
