Active Interest Media
Active Interest Media is a media company focused on enthusiast magazines and related consumer shows, websites and books.
Active Interest Media ("AIM"), headquartered in El Segundo, California, currently serves enthusiasts in five niches: equine, healthy living, home, marine and outdoor enthusiasts.
AIM publishes several category-leading magazines, including American Cowboy, Backpacker, Better Nutrition, Black Belt, Dressage Today, EQUUS, Horse & Rider, Log Home Living, Muscle & Performance, Old-House Journal, Optimum Wellness, Practical Horseman, Timber Home Living, Trail Rider, Vegetarian Times, Yachts International and Yoga Journal. Through its Show Management division, AIM produces five annual in-water boat shows including the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), the largest boat show in the world.
Wind Point founded AIM in October 2003. Our value creation plan focuses on acquiring enthusiast titles, which have loyal readers and advertisers, and using those titles as a platform to expand into complementary outlets, such as trade shows, books and websites. AIM has completed 17 niche media acquisitions under Wind Point’s ownership.
Wind Point founded AIM in partnership with CEO Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, a publishing industry veteran. Prior to AIM, Skip was CEO of Times Mirror Magazines, the publisher of enthusiast magazines Ski, Skiing and Golf, where he grew revenues by 30%, EBIT from a loss to over $30 million, and then led a successful sale.
