FoodScience Acquires Pet Tech Laboratories

Acquisition expands FoodScience’s animal contract manufacturing capabilities and geographic presence

Chicago, IL, September 9, 2021 – FoodScience, LLC (“FoodScience”), a portfolio company of Wind Point Partners (“Wind Point”), today announced the acquisition of Pet Tech Labs (“Pet Tech Labs” or the “Company”), a contract manufacturer of animal nutritional supplements based in Syracuse, Nebraska.

For nearly 30 years, the Pet Tech Labs mission has been helping pets live healthier lives by providing high quality animal supplements to support targeted animal health needs. The Company manufactures a broad portfolio of soft chews, tablets, granules and liquids for branded manufacturers and veterinary clinics. Originally named Pharma Chemie, Pet Tech  was founded in 1992 by entrepreneur Mark Pieloch, who later sold the business to Paul Jonjak and Carol Potter in 2013.

Since 1973, FoodScience has provided high quality nutritional supplements through trusted animal and human health brands. With an extensive portfolio of efficacious products, FoodScience serves the animal supplements market through both turnkey private label and custom formulation services and the company’s two brands, VetriScience® and Pet Naturals®. FoodScience’s core values guide the company in their mission to help people and pets live healthier lives. The addition of Pet Tech Labs expands FoodScience’s existing contract manufacturing customer relationships and provides a Midwest presence for the Vermont-based company, enabling the combined business to better serve its global customer base.

"This acquisition will enhance the combined companies’ ability to serve customers through broader capabilities and a geographically expanded manufacturing and distribution presence.”

Paul Peterson, Managing Director

Sharon Rossi, CEO of FoodScience, stated, “We are excited to welcome the Pet Tech Labs team to the FoodScience family, and we congratulate Paul Jonjak and Carol Potter on building a highly reputable operation through delivering high quality service to a broad customer base. The Pet Tech Labs platform enables FoodScience to continue expanding our animal supplements contract manufacturing services and further diversifies our go-to-market strategies.”

Paul Peterson, Managing Director at Wind Point, noted, “The addition of Pet Tech Labs marks an important milestone in our value creation plan to grow the FoodScience platform in the attractive pet supplements industry. This acquisition will enhance the combined companies’ ability to serve customers through broader capabilities and a geographically expanded manufacturing and distribution presence.”

Carol Potter and Paul Jonjak, co-owners of Pet Tech Labs, commented, “We are very proud of our team who have built Pet Tech Labs’ reputation for exceptional quality and service. As we contemplated retirement, we were committed to finding a successor who would maintain and build on that reputation. FoodScience’s professionalism immediately impressed us. As we grew to know their team, we became confident that Pet Tech Labs and FoodScience are the right fit. FoodScience brings the resources our team needs to help Pet Tech Labs enter a new phase of growth as it continues to produce nutritional pet supplements that meet the world-class standards that our customers expect and deserve.”

Pet Tech Labs represents the first add-on acquisition for FoodScience since partnering with Wind Point in March 2021. In collaboration with management of FoodScience and Pet Tech Labs, Wind Point will continue growing the FoodScience platform through a combination of organic initiatives and additional acquisitions that will complement the existing branded and contract manufacturing businesses with market leading production capabilities and an omnichannel customer presence.
